SilTanium Supreme-V was the answer to an LVT floor that was difficult to maintain. The flooring is beautiful and functional. However, there are many large pieces of equipment being rolled in and out of rooms. Beds, monitors, carts and in-room furniture are constantly being shifted around. This leaves scuff marks in the floor that were quite difficult to remove.
Once SilTanium Supreme-V was installed, the scuffs were easily removed in the normal cleaning process using auto-scrubbers and red pads. Like magic, the problems disappeared.
Planning for a project like this is almost impossible due to the nature of a Labor and Delivery operation. There are two key components to make this project successful. 1) The L&D staff must be proactive and work well with the contractor. The staff at Piedmont Hospital were truly incredible!! 2) The coating system must dry for use in minutes in case an emergency delivery pops up. SilTanium Supreme-V fit that bill. Three coats of Supreme were applied. Each was dry to walk on in 3-4 minutes.
The project included halls and patient rooms. As rooms opened up, they were immediately processed. When rooms were all full, SilTanium processed halls and restrooms. The restrooms were all tile and grout and Piedmont chose the ColorBond Supreme coating system in those areas.
SilTanium Supreme-V averages about 13,000 square feet per coat (verses floor finish at 1,700-2,000 square feet per coat). Floor Finish would have required 6 coats and taken a minimum of 6 hours to coat and burnish. The labor involved for the time differential in application more than paid for the cost of SilTanium Supreme-V versus many gallons of floor finish. And then the real savings begin as there is no top-scrub and recoat required. On LVT, shine is generally not sought so the need to burnish is eliminated.
