Concrete is partially composed of calcium. So, when common food spills from pickle juice or cleaning chemicals occur, the acidic nature of the liquid attacks the calcium, and that can etch the concrete and leave a blemish.

Our DFE (Diamond Floor Enhancement) system and SentryGuard topical guard coating enables SilTanium to repair these problems at the extremely fast rate of about 1 spot per hour. The process does not just address the affected area; we take the process out to the control and expansion joints to make a uniform area of repair.

Removing both carpet and carpet glue can be a daunting task. The problem compounds when the first carpet installed used a solvent-based adhesive that left color impregnated into the terrazzo surface. However, we accomplished this task for more than 8,000 feet of flooring at a major public university.

The job began with carpet removal, followed by removing glue with branded SilTanium chemicals. Following adequate dwell time, we hand-scraped the glue from the surface. After cleaning the floors, the process of honing and polishing began. We hand-polished edges and repaired areas of broken terrazzo and threshold with high-psi concrete overlayment that also was hand-polished. After polishing all floors to an 800-grit resin bond level, we applied two coats of SentryGuard and used Diamond pads to burnish to a high shine. When we tested the floors with a Bot 3000e portable digital tribometer, the results were excellent.

Once again, Diamond Floor Enhancement has restored a terrazzo floor to its original beauty. The age of the university building precluded the availability of elevators, so all equipment was hand-transported to four separate levels. Lightweight 110 power-based equipment made this SilTanium DFE process possible.

We polished hall floors and landings to an 800-grit level and burnished with Diamond pads after the application of SentryGuard. To provide protection without an overwhelming shine, we processed the steps using CFE (Chemical Floor Enhancement).

When many small holes and cracks opened up, we filled them with a fast-setting polymer before flattening and polishing them to uniformity with the floor. Once rescued from years of wear and soil impregnation, the floors brightened to a high gloss. This restoration took only days and now the area is easily maintainable for years to come.

SilTanium Corporation has assisted RD Weis in developing a solution to a Nora flooring product on a ramp in a hospital. The issue was that the area does not conform to the customer’s expectation on coefficient of friction and there may be an increased potential of a slip-fall. 

Samples of the product in question were sent to the R&D lab at SilTanium Corporation in Georgia where we performed tests using the latest Bott 3000E static coefficient of friction testing unit. We tested as-is as well as and coated, both wet and dry. The results demonstrated that SilTanium Supreme-V as an easy-to-maintain coating that, when applied directly to the surface of the tile, increased the coefficient of friction 16% to 38%.

This is another example of how a perfect partnership between RD Weis and SilTanium Corporation can deliver value to the customer.

When RD Weis used our ColorBond and SentryGuard on a natural-slate lobby floor in the high-profile Westin Hotel in Times Square, NYC, ColorBond delivered new life and color uniformity to the grout on this beautiful floor. SentryGuard then protected the slate and grout while improving the coefficient of friction to reduce the potential of slip-falls. The coefficient is so high that it also serves as a walk-off mat to reduce soiling throughout the hotel, because leaving soil at the door reduces other cleaning needs.

Merck is just one of many major U.S. pharmaceutical producers serviced by RD Weis.   When you think Merck, you think quality. And when you see the work performed by RD Weis, you know quality.

Performing work in a cafeteria that is open for employee use is a challenge. RD Weis generally starts and stops at the end of each work day and then the area is re-opened for use.   This will force additional cleaning prior to proceeding to the next step each day.  However, that is the scope of work and with the SilTanium Supreme products, it can be accomplished.

This project required deep cleaning of the entire area. Then small areas were re-cleaned and the ColorBond colored grout sealer applied, section by section. Once complete, the entire floor was re-cleaned and multiple coats of SilTanium Supreme applied. The fast-dry and cure formula of SilTanium Supreme allows for a final sign-off after less than one hour before reopening. Because our coatings dry faster than most, the customer can leave at the end of the day and return to a floor that is complete and fully functional.

After years of using a polishing system on terrazzo, the University of Rochester gave RD Weis a chance to prove its system. The company employed the SilTanium DFE (Diamond Floor Enhancement) system with a stunning outcome. 

Most terrazzo-polishing projects specify an 800-grit polish level, which creates the best balance between aesthetic outcome and long-term maintenance. Simple foot traffic will cause a polishing or abrasive effect.  That effect generally results in a surface smoothness of an 800-grit diamond.  Therefore, the highest shine with the lowest maintenance due to foot traffic is an 800-grit polish. 

The University of Rochester decided that taking the floor to 3,000-grit would deliver the higher level of clarity desired. Generally, it takes more periodic maintenance to keep the floor at this level.  However, to minimize the cost of additional maintenance associated with a higher polish level, the RD Weis technicians applied SentryGuard, which is so hard it requires diamond impregnated pads to effectively burnish it therefore , reducing foot traffic abrasion to the polished terrazzo. This treatment provides long-lasting life to the floor. It also greatly improves the coefficient of friction, which reduces the potential for slip-fall accidents. In addition, SentryGuard creates a stain barrier that makes daily cleaning a breeze.

Large distribution centers that use electric power to move goods need entire rooms to charge the batteries, which requires specialized lifts to replace batteries in the rack and pull freshly charged batteries. These lifts weigh up to 15,000 pounds, and acid escaping from the batteries can wreck a concrete floor. A Major International Retailer had been using thick, chemical- and wear-resistant floor coatings. These coatings can break down in a few years, requiring operations to close while old coatings are ground off the floor and new ones applied.

SilTanium has devised a creative way to eliminate this cost and downtime. After cleaning and neutralizing the floor, we install special poly sheeting, secure it into the concrete with stainless steel anchors, then seal the edges. All of this happens while the operation continues to run, sending goods out the door to keep stores stocked.

SilTanium Corporation has helped Georgia Tech enhance one of the university’s oldest buildings while also improving the safety factor. We accomplished this by modifying the stair treads and employing our DFE process to enhance the coefficient of friction.

The project began with the installation of slip-resistant treads on all stairs. The Georgia Tech construction manager specified the treads and Balco supplied them. The Balco sales representative, Tom Bates of the Robert Bates Company, greatly simplified the ordering process.

After cleaning the steps, we densified the area with SilTanium SentryHard before coating it with SentryGuard to protect from stains and wear. Finally, we diamond-honed and polished the landings and main halls. Once again, we used SentryHard and SentryGuard, then burnished with a diamond pad for a high shine.
