Auburn University has a few buildings that present challenges to the facility operations folks.  The Comer Building is one of these outliers.  There are several floors and no elevators.  There is only one janitorial closet to supply water and dump waste cleaning water on all upper floors. 

Maintaining traditional floor finish in this environment is very difficult.  The yearly stripping and re-application of floor finish is literally a manual process.  This year, Auburn decided to defeat the problem by switching to SilTanium Supreme-V which does not require top scrub and re-coat or stripping and refinishing.  However, if a floor must be stripped, SilTanium Supreme-V can be removed in one pass with a maroon pad and SSRefresh.

Elevators are always a difficult area to maintain.  It is doubly so when the substrate is a soft stone like marble. 

The Waldorf Astoria in Atlanta, GA chose to have their marble polished and then protected with SentryGuard.  The intention is to reduce the constant need to bring in companies who diamond powder polish to keep the floors looking great.

By using the DFE system with SentryGuard, the SentryGuard itself becomes the surface to maintain.   Then it gets simple.  Just clean the floor with a red pad and residue free cleaning solution, let it dry and burnish with diamond pads to return the substrate to its original luster.

The Class-A office space, CASIC Hubbard, houses major US corporation’s research activities in Engineering; Science and Mathematics; Forestry and Wildlife Sciences; and Architecture, Design, and Construction. Research clusters include food safety, aquaculture development and sustainability, water and environmental quality, information science, and biofuel/bioenergy technologies.

Building managers in the Class-A environment need a lobby that presents their commitment to excellence. The DSE Process (Deep Scrub and Extract), was completed on four floors in Pulte’s Class-A office space. Cleaning included restrooms, corridors and lobbies. This project was not a run of the mill cleaning. It was the first time a tile and grout expert cleaned the floors.

The tile was large 24-inch by 24-inch flat porcelain. Porcelain does not absorb moisture but it is porous. The pores will hold soil and cleaning chemical residue. Much like a white car, you cannot see how much soil is in the surface until it is deeply cleaned.

After two-days of testing and processing, it was determined that SSRefresh, the degreasing chemistry used on petroleum-based oils, was the best candidate to gently remove the impregnated soil without opening the surface which occurs with most acid cleaners.

The floor must remain wet at all times from chemical application, to scrubbing with maroon pads to extraction, rinsing and extraction. It is quite a process and takes a good deal more time than a normal scrub and extraction clean. However, the end result is perfect.

As mid-town Atlanta grows, new high-rise buildings are sprouting up everywhere.  As a neighboring building went up, unforeseen engineering issues occurred to the Sheller buildings foundation.  Repairs were immediately made to shore up Sheller but the beautiful terrazzo floors developed a few cracks.  Filling and patching the cracks was rather simple but the process left the floors finish uneven.

SilTanium stepped in with its Diamond Floor Enhancement (DFE) process and returned the floors to their original state, reflective, shiny and beautiful.  

The floors were honed and then polished to an 800-grit resin level.  Then coated with SentryGuard and burnished to a high shine with 11,000 diamond pads on a high speed burnisher.

SilTanium Supreme-V was the answer to an LVT floor that was difficult to maintain. The flooring is beautiful and functional. However, there are many large pieces of equipment being rolled in and out of rooms. Beds, monitors, carts and in-room furniture are constantly being shifted around. This leaves scuff marks in the floor that were quite difficult to remove.

Once SilTanium Supreme-V was installed, the scuffs were easily removed in the normal cleaning process using auto-scrubbers and red pads. Like magic, the problems disappeared.

Planning for a project like this is almost impossible due to the nature of a Labor and Delivery operation. There are two key components to make this project successful. 1) The L&D staff must be proactive and work well with the contractor. The staff at Piedmont Hospital were truly incredible!! 2) The coating system must dry for use in minutes in case an emergency delivery pops up. SilTanium Supreme-V fit that bill. Three coats of Supreme were applied. Each was dry to walk on in 3-4 minutes.

The project included halls and patient rooms. As rooms opened up, they were immediately processed. When rooms were all full, SilTanium processed halls and restrooms. The restrooms were all tile and grout and Piedmont chose the ColorBond Supreme coating system in those areas.

SilTanium Supreme-V averages about 13,000 square feet per coat (verses floor finish at 1,700-2,000 square feet per coat). Floor Finish would have required 6 coats and taken a minimum of 6 hours to coat and burnish. The labor involved for the time differential in application more than paid for the cost of SilTanium Supreme-V versus many gallons of floor finish. And then the real savings begin as there is no top-scrub and recoat required. On LVT, shine is generally not sought so the need to burnish is eliminated.

When the time came to refurbish the terrazzo floors in the corporate office, Diamler Benz chose SilTanium Corporation and our Diamond Floor Enhancement (DFE) process. Like Diamler’s reputation, their floors now shine and the product will last with low maintenance.

This project had many carpet inserts throughout the terrazzo floor. With DFE, the process of working around those areas was fast and priced to impress. DFE uses a wet polishing system which eliminates dust and any potential for silica dust health issues. The slurry is removed in process so chances of a slip-fall during process is virtually eliminated.

The process is quiet and runs on 110-power. This allows for work to be completed while operations are in full swing. Better yet, by using SentryGuard, floors will be easily maintained without bringing in the diamond grinding to reproduce the original look. Just clean with a red pad and burnish with a diamond pad.

The photo below shows the deep, reflective nature of the DFE process. The Diamler name is now proudly reflected in their floors.

The Harris Teeter Grocery store chain was recently acquired by Kroger.  Many internal changes have occurred since then but not the quality of service, excellent products or their commitment to clean beautiful restroom floors.

SilTanium has enjoyed a relationship with Harris Teeter for over thirteen years.  In that time, all new stores and many existing have received the SilTanium TG Glass Coating on their restroom tile and grout.  These coatings have lasted well beyond the three-year warranty.  Just this year, a store was remodeled and the decade plus old coating was re-applied.  Now that is a durable coating.  In fact, there is no other coating in the world that will last longer!
